From Key West to Cape Flattery

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve been traveling full-time for eight months! If you’ve been following along for a while you’ll remember our chaotic visit to Key West in January. Nearly 14,000 meandering miles later, we’ve made it to the opposite corner of the lower forty-eight states – Cape Flattery, Washington. I considered trying to trace our route on the map, but I was afraid I’d make you car sick.

Boys in Key West

US Map with FlagsCape Flattery was on the “must do” list, simply for it’s geographic location. We didn’t expect it to be one of the most picturesque places we’ve been. And we were happy and relieved to find the trail is pet friendly! Breaking the rules is not part of our standard operating procedures – but getting a picture of the boys at the most northwest corner of the country really wasn’t optional.

This point has likely been the end of the road for many journeys – the place where you turn the car around and head back to where you came from. It feels like a turning point for us too, but one that I can’t quite put my finger on. Perhaps it’s the first hints of fall, or the fact that we’ll soon be ending these months of northbound travels to winter where the weather’s warmer.

Maybe … but there’s also something more significant than that. An unconscious realization that things have changed. Somewhere along the way, two accountants on a trip evolved into travelers. Trying to picture ourselves in a stationary life has become painful, and, at least for now, that feels like a one-way street.

So, we got our picture of the boys and turned to head back the way we’d come … with an understanding that the journey has become our life.

Wow, eight months! It's all gone by so quickly too. I think it's fascinating how life turns out so unexpectedly and the littlest things end up having the largest impact. I am so glad everything fell into place the way it did and you found yourselves on the road. Thanks for sharing with us. Height Adjustable Desks

Hi Y'all, You just have to spend some time enjoying autumn colors across the country and then hibernate for the winter.  My Humans always thought that it would be wonderful to follow the spring north and the autumn south.  They thought it would be fun to be able to stay in great locations for a couple weeks and then move as the flowers bloomed or leaves turned.  Love to see that route you took on the map!  I'll join the chorus!

By the way, by "spot" I meant Cape Flattery :)

I have been to that spot many times...although not in a while. If you are accountants turned travelers I think I am a traveler stuck in an "office jobbers" llife. I traveled as much as I could when I was young (which wasn't near enough) and I still feel compelled to take a year off to do more. I am in the group that feels too established and fearful to do so though. Good for you for going with it. For now I will put my head down and continue to live my conflicted lifestyle and dream.

Maybe next summer you guys should trip up to Alaska. How would that look on your road map? When I read your posts, I look at the pictures like they are in a been there, done that photo album. There are times that I forget that you guys are still rambling down (or up) the road. Happy Trails! Be safe & well!

I am so glad everything fell into place the way it did and you found yourselves on the road. The amount of people you have inspired to go on adventures of their own is, I am sure, limitless. I am still hoping one day you will make it out to the east coast of Canada. We would love to show you around!
